Programme Objective
To improve the efficiency and sustainability of forest management and forest industries in Vietnam.

Programme Components
The Programme comprises 3 components, i.e.

1. Sustainable Management and Utilisation of Natural Forest
Target: Public and private forest resources managers implement sustainable forest management practices in 5 pilot provinces.
2. Processing, Trade and Marketing of Important Forest Products
Target: The public and private sector apply improved timber processing and marketing methods in selected areas.
3. Forestry Policy
Target: The Vietnamese forestry policy supports the sustainable management and utilization of forest resources.

The Pilot Provinces
The Programme supports the development and implementation of sustainable forest management and utilisation models in 5 pilot provinces, i.e. Yien Bai (North, 6808 km2, 52.0% forest cover), Quang Binh (Northern Central Vietnam, 8037 km2, 64.4% forest cover), Ninh Thuan (South-Eastern Vietnam, 3427 km2, 43.0% forest cover), Dak Lak (Central Highlands, 13060 km2, 46.3% forest cover) and Kon Tum (Central Highlands, 9934 km2, 63.4% forest cover).
